We’re a company full of innovative individuals, or as we call them, #innoviduals. This recurring series highlights some of our best and brightest employees, providing insights about the scope and depth of talent throughout Leidos.

This month’s #innovidual is Chris Vee, a Solutions Architect for Leidos Health.

Tell us a little about your job role and responsibilities, and/or something you’re currently working on

“I currently support enterprise IT services at the CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services). My role is to help our teams design and modernize the hosting and end-user support systems.”

Why is innovation important in your role?

“As good stewards of our contract funds and the importance of the CMS mission, we have to go beyond just best practices in managing the data centers and user assets. We have to look at how we can adapt the newest capabilities and see how to customize them in the unique government operating environment.”

What’s your definition of innovation? What does innovation mean to you?

“Innovation is adapting to change proactively. Too often, we can wait for the change to become a requirement before changing our approach.”

What does innovation look like?

“I try to challenge my teams by imposing an artificial constraint or removing an existing assumption from their list to see how their solution or approach might change. Then we compare and see if the solution is better than the original. If so, we focus our efforts on working with the customer to change the assumption by showing the benefits of the new approach, but still mitigating the original concern.”
