Icons represented Leidos core technical capabilities“What does Leidos do?” It’s a commonly asked question, but surprisingly difficult to answer. As a $10 billion company that spans several markets, it’s challenging to arrive at a clear and concise definition.

A defense contractor. A solutions company. A leader in government information technology (IT). Each of these answers are common. While they are short and effective, however, they don’t tell the full story.

What we do is broadly defined by our mission statement: “We make the world safer, healthier, and more efficient through information technology, engineering, and science.” It's an admirable statement, but also a substantive one. To explore this idea further, we interviewed many of our senior technologists. These individuals understand perhaps most clearly not only what we do, but also why it matters. Their insights are fascinating, and help tell a much richer story about our company.

In this blog series, we will present some of the most compelling evidence that supports our mission statement. The series will cover seven technical core competencies that underpin the work we do for our customers. Check back over the next few weeks as we go in-depth to answer that one commonly asked question: What does Leidos do?
