This month’s #innovidual is Leidos Technical Fellow and Master Solutions Architect Bob Riepshoff. Bob is the Chief Architect for our DISA Global Information GSM-O (Grid Services Management Operation) program.

Tell us a little about your job role and responsibilities, and/or something you’re currently working on.

“I’m part of our Defense and Intelligence group, specifically Enterprise and Cyber Solutions operations under the GSM-O contract. I’m responsible for defining the overall technical strategies, evolution plans, and innovation in support of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).”

Why is innovation important in your role?

“The transformation innovation brings can deliver performance in execution, which in turn provides us the necessary discriminators to protect our core, strengthen our position and the expertise we bring to GSM-O, and grow our business.”

What’s your definition of innovation?

“Innovation is the realization of new ideas, processes, business models, or technology, which when implemented, can result in a positive business impact.”

What does innovation look like? Any recent examples from your job?

“A recent example of innovation within DISA, is when we initially investigated Software-Defined Networking (SDN) as IRAD [internal research and development]. We demonstrated its applicability to a customer’s challenge, and developed and executed a plan to transition SDN to on-contract growth. The transition occurred successfully in early 2017 onto the GSM-O contract with DISA. Building upon that success, SDN has now been integrated into DISA’s DISN [Defense Information Systems Network] Technical Evolution Plan (DTEP) and become an integral part of their future transformational success.”
