Six Tips to Make the Most of Your HIMSS18 Experience

February 20, 2018 Matt Maloney

Conferences help instill innovation. This is the core mission of the 2018 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference (HIMSS18) in Las Vegas, March 5-9. Getting the most out of the conference, however, requires understanding some navigation tips and tricks, as well as prep work that could prove useful.

Some tips to have a better experience at HIMSS are:

Understand what you want to see and accomplish ahead of time.
There are over 300 education sessions spanning 23 topics including: Connected health, Cybersecurity, Data analytics, Innovation, Interoperability, Population health, and Precision medicine

HIMSS18 has so many categories that a plan prioritizing attendance is essential. We recommend that you start now by reviewing the topics that interest you most and spacing out enough time for each day to look at other topics you may not have considered.

It’s common knowledge that the HIMSS18 full-conference registration includes access to keynote sessions and attendance at the opening reception. But the registration also includes access to all education sessions for the week including specialty programs and all recorded general education sessions.

This registration also provides access to views from the top sessions and entrance to the exhibition floor, as well as orientations covering more details around the conference and HIMSS. Please note that if you are interested in the pre-conference symposia, or workshops, registration may not include admission to those events.

689-BLOG-NUMBERS-3.jpgUse social media, such as Facebook and Twitter.
To improve networking with other HIMSS18 attendees before you leave for Las Vegas, tap into those valuable social media tools. This way you can find potential contacts and schedule lunches and dinners at the conference.

This service helps plan travel and logistics around HIMSS so that you can build an agenda that is tailored to fit your needs. This can save valuable time and maximize your learning time at the conference.

Don’t forget that HIMSS18 is an opportunity to earn continuing education credits. You are at the show to learn, so be sure to earn CE credits for the sessions that you attend. You can start earning credits by viewing the credits accreditation statement at the main website.

Many vendors offer short education sessions in their booths that can help you learn about specific products, services, and industry trends.
