MLS WORKS is Major League Soccer's community outreach initiative. In celebration of MLS WORKS' Greener Goals Week of Service, D.C. United partnered with Anacostia Riverkeeper — a non-profit that works on protecting and restoring the river — to help educate the community about the impacts of littering on April 20.

Leidos volunteers were on hand to help D.C. United staff, season ticket holders and the Riverkeeper paint storm drains with fun soccer-themed designs and awareness messages to help keep the Anacostia River clean. The event was hosted at the King Greenleaf Recreation Center in Buzzard Point, which is the neighborhood D.C. United's new stadium, Audi Field, will be located.

“One of the best parts of the day was all of the people that stopped by to say how excited they were to have D.C. United in the neighborhood and to thank the team for their efforts”, said Carla Post, Sustainability Project Manager for Leidos. “Leidos and MLS share a common commitment to environmental stability in our workplace and our communities.”

In addition to a week of events intended to raise awareness, MLS and Adidas partnered to support Parley for the Oceans by releasing environmentally-friendly jerseys made from recycled ocean plastic for all of the league's 23 teams. All MLS teams wore their Adidas Parley 2018 MLS jersey during their Earth Day weekend games, Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April 22.
